Invisible braces or aligners have been an alternative to fixed braces since the 1990s – these transparent aligners are now extremely popular for straightening teeth. Invisalign® braces are removable, transparent plastic aligners. The main advantage of invisible braces is that they are no longer visible from a short distance. The teeth are gradually corrected with individually manufactured plastic splints, which are replaced every 10 – 14 days. They can be removed for eating and cleaning, which reduces the risk of tooth decay, gingivitis and cavities. They also restrict speech less than fixed braces. In orthodontics , invisible braces are used to correct mild to moderate malocclusions and can be easily integrated into everyday working life.
What are Invisalign® aligners?
Invisalign® invisible braces are among the most popular aligners on the market and are considered the most advanced system for straightening teeth. With Invisalign®, no dental impressions are required; the initial situation of the teeth is recorded using a 3D scan of the teeth and jaws in our practice in Hanover. This enables a vivid before-and-after simulation that allows the patient to see their future straight teeth even before the actual treatment. The individual rails are custom-made using 3D printing. At the start of treatment, tooth-colored attachments are placed on some teeth when the first splint is inserted to ensure better force transmission during the straightening of the teeth using the individual splints. Each splint exerts a certain amount of pressure and moves the teeth gradually and gently into the desired position. Depending on the malocclusion, 10 to invisible braces are required and the treatment lasts between 9 and 18 months.

Invisible braces can be used to correct the following malocclusions:
- Moderate crowding of the front teeth,
- Moderate gap in the front teeth,
- crowns tilted towards the lip,
- crowns tilted towards the oral cavity,
- for teeth that are recessed or elongated in the jaw.

Reviews from patients who have opted for tooth correction with Invisalign® particularly emphasize that the first successes become visible early on. Although the cost is somewhat higher than with fixed braces, the advantage is that the appliances are virtually invisible from the outside. Patients also find it positive that the aligners can be worn in everyday life without any problems. The recommended daily wearing time is approx. 18 hours.
